Welcome to Millbury Girls Softball

Recreational softball for all girls residing in or attending school in Millbury Grades K - 9

The goal of the Millbury Girls' Softball League is to provide young girls in the town of Millbury with the opportunity to learn to play softball, practice good sportsmanship, develop new friendships, and most of all, have fun. Secondarily the league will make every effort to provide the opportunity for all members to participate in the Twin Valley Summer Recreational Season. It is the intent of the league to teach the girls to:

  • Have fun
  • Play fair
  • Respect the feelings of others
  • Win and lose gracefully
  • To encourage good sportsmanship
  • To teach the basic skills needed to play softball
  • To have equal participation for each team member
  • To teach the value of team play

A Note on Sportsmanship

Good sportsmanship, especially at the ages of the girls participating in this league, is as important as winning. When both teams that are playing a game demonstrate good sportsmanship, both teams win because everyone has fun.

Good sportsmanship can make the difference between a good team or player and a great team or player. People respect and look up to teams and players who practice good sportsmanship and people resent those who do not.

In the spirit of the league's attempt to develop fine athletes that we can all be proud of, all managers, coaches, parents, and players are asked to practice good sportsmanship. Set good examples for each other by cheering and encouraging all participants.

All league participants are also asked to respect umpires. A league rule forbids anyone from arguing with or complaining about an umpire for the following reasons:

  • Arguing with and complaining about umpires sets a bad example for others, particularly the players.
  • Arguing with and complaining about umpires spoils the fun of the game.
  • Arguments can affect the players the next day at school.
  • Umpires might be the parents or siblings of players.
  • Children or siblings of an umpire are forced to carry an extra burden when there is an argument.
  • Arguments distract participants and spectators from all the good things that happen during a game.

Let's all have a fun season!!!
